Hi guys my father used my identity( he's not in my life) some how and when i try to apply for stuff, i cant verify my identity because it ask questions of stuff that he took out in my name like loans and a car loan. We have the same name but im a III and he is a jr. Some how he used my social security number i'm guessing. But i can't sign up for banks online or nothing because i have to verify my identity but i can't because i don't know any answers to the questions they ask me because i didn't do any of the things they ask me. What can i do to resolve this? how can i get rid of the stuff he used in my identity? basically how can i get my identity back whats the first steps i should take? any advice would be very appreciated

Answer:
you need to pull your credit reports from ALL of the 3 major companies..get a certified copy of your birth certificate if you do not already have one and then look at the reports long and hard....... He would more than likely have your ssn etc etc and that is how he has got away with it for so long, have had this happen to several friends and relatives...........when it shows that he opened a credit card [for example] and you was ONLY 6 years old then it will take work but all this crap will be taken off your credit and you should be able to start with a fresh slate. Out of interest how old are you now?? as usually all this crap comes out when the child [you] turns 18 and or files taxes for them selves. What I MUST add is yep he may have been your bio dad but seriously what he has done I would not do to an enemy let alone my own child.........so you need to be prepared to get him slammed with criminal charges if that is what it takes................ edit ALL the issues that happened before you turned 18 are a pain in the butt to sort out but are quite easy overall....just seems a sad state of affairs that you have to clean up the mess from a douche like that...............I state to get your certified copy of your BC as this WILL be needed to send off to the credit reporting places as proof of you and who you are etc etc............also it will help if you start compiling a list of where you lived / dates etc along with proof of you living there, like a school letter / transcript............Often times it is easy to trace back the person using the ssn wrongly as they do NOT use the address you are actually at but their own.............for instance if you have always lived in one state and there are loads of stuff from another state it again makes it easier to show it was NOT you Have you ever filed taxes on your own yet..........was there any issues with those............. If you look on line at the credit reporting web sites you can often see guidelines and information as to HOW to address this very issue............. What has your mother said about this?? And this would be a GREAT time to ask her if she ever had the need to use your ssn at some point when you was younger?? EDIT when you look at those sites IF things do not match up then they will block it BUT you can request a written version [which would be best for you any ways] You could also try some place like creditkarma.com..................also the clarkhoward web site has some good pointers for you. Whatever you do from this point on MAKE SURE you keep a log of everything and a copy of what you send out etc etc, preferably a hard / paper copy in a file.............. Pretty much had to deal with same sort of bs crap from my husbands other wife..........she has been a nightmare in opening up new stuff etc etc using his name etc.....last one was about 1 year ago where she had medical bills sent to MY home in another state from where she lives and then let it go into default..............she had no intention of ever paying her way and still thinks that after he and i being married she should get a shyt load of things................
