How do you color line art using Gimp?

How to make better line art in gimp?

  • I'm trying to find which tool is the best for the line art.Btw,i'm using gimp 2.8

  • Answer:

GIMP is a raster image editor - it's not actually designed for doing line art - although it can be done. For line art you would be better using a vector image editor such as Inkscape http://www.inkscape.org - Inkscape like GIMP is Open Source software. You can also produce line art in GIMP - one of the tools you can use for this is the paths tool. You need to create a bezier path (a vector path), which you can then stroke or fill - since GIMP is a raster image editor these vector paths need to be rendered as raster images (made of pixels) - and this is its main disadvantage. Vectors created in proper vector image editors have no pixels, just strokes and fills, and because of this they can be resized without the quality being degraded. Another way to create line art in GIMP is to use a graphics tablet such as a WACOM. These allow you to paint or draw naturally as you would with a pen. It's much more controllable than drawing with a mouse.
