Why can't I get my DVD sound on my sound system?

• I have a surround sound system at my house. For the most part, I have no problems with playing DVDs or BluRay disks and having the sound go through my sound system. Here is what I am experiencing though. I subscribe to Netflix's streaming and DVD services. I have had absolutely no problem with the sound on the streaming service, but when I do get a DVD from them about 50% of the time I cannot get sound over my system while playing the DVD, though I get the audio fine over the TV. I only seem to have this issue with the DVDs from Netflix. I am thinking that it has to do with the way the DVDs are recorded, not my system since the lack of audio only occurs on discs that I get from them and no others. I spoke with Netflix and they couldn't answer this question except for the fact it "may" have to do with copyright protection on the disc. Does anyone else have any thoughts here as to why only certain discs can play the audio over the sound system? OH, and my DVD/BluRay machine is less than a year old and has the latest firmware, so I know it's not the machine. Additionally, I have tried these discs on other machines with the same result; audio over the TV but not the sound system.

  Try replacing the AV cable to your stereo. If this doesn't solve the issue test using a different input on the stereo. It sounds more like you have a bad cable or connection than the dub protection. Check to see if the disk is defalting to DTS audio. Some players can't read the DTS audio signal. I have an RCA DVD/DVR with that flaw.Good luck. Hey, I'm curious now. Let me know if you figure it out.
