Are there any Pharmacy careers in the field of Medical Cannabis?

If I pursue Pharmacy; could it open up the door to becoming a Doctor?

  • Hello; I know the question might seem a little silly; but I'm currently about to enter my 4th year of Highschool and I still don't have much of a concrete plan to follow through in terms of my future career. My dad insists on me becoming a doctor, but in all honesty I'm not sure if it's the right thing for me - but I can't say that quite yet as I haven't had any experience or seen first hand what a doctor (in any specialty) does. My question is; if I were to pursue a career in Pharmacy and if I wound up liking being in med school; would it be hard to continue studying to become a Doctor or to advance onto any other careers in the medical field with the education I would have already earned through Pharmacy? Again; sorry for the silly question, Hopefully you can mind the curiousity of a teen overthinking about careers!

    They are separate. Pharmacy school is not in any way the first part of med school. You could do both but few people do and you would be better off just choosing which you want to do. _

It would essentially be just as much work as coming in from a career in anything else. There are no shortcuts for getting into med school easier or getting through faster. Pharmacy school and med school are completely separate.

You need a Doctorate to become a Pharmacisit. And then you would need to apply to medical schools and go there for another four years plus 2/3 years for your resiidency- ON top of all the years it took you to get your PharmD? Being a doctor isn't all it use to be. So much money is spent on malpratice insurance, they need to deal with HMO's, really bad hours, being on call. And you MUST have your own inside drive to become a medical doctor. It has to be a passion of your to be able to get through all the schooling and then to treat people. You can be dealing with human life here. Don't do it unless it really is a calling to you
