What do I bring on a camping?
-
My school scouts team(which I'm entering) is going on a camping at a forest for 5days and 4nights. This will be my second time going camping. The first time is when I was 5years old so I don't know a thing about camping(but the teacher said she will help me) Anyway, my teacher didn't said what to bring because she's busy making preparation so I want to know what to bring. How many shirts and trousers I have to pack? What first aid kit I should bring and what in it? Please Help!!! We are going in 6days so I don't have much time!

Answer:
Your Scoutmaster and patrol leader should have given you a list of what to bring. Also your scout manual will have a list of what to bring. Here is a list of stuff that you should bring and it is criticle you bring the ten essentials, http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/backpacking+checklist.html

i would pack a shirt for each day and two shirts for sleeping at night, plus maybe a couple of spare shirts for mucky activities. then i would pack a couple pairs of shorts (not the really short ones, perhaps knee length) and a couple pairs of trousers (sorry if thats a typically british way of talking!). in terms of underwear...take socks for each day an lots of spares, and the other underwear you should just figure out for yourself. bring one pair of hiking boots, one pair of comfortable trainers/sneakers and one pair of trainers/sneakers that you dont mind ruining. maybe take a sunhat like a baseball cap ect, and suncream! bring a big and a small towel. oh and take maybe three hoodies/jumpers/sweaters, it can get pretty cold at night and in the evenings! and also a water proof light weight jacket - you never know! in terms of equipment, make sure you have a good tent! make sure the seams are treated or taped and have a hydrostatic head of (if its a dry place where youre camping) of maybe...1500mm (hydrostatic head is how waterproof the tent canvas is, but if its dry and it wont storm out there you will be fine with a low one). bring a sleeping mat (a foam one, a self inflating one or even a blow up bed, but unless you have lots of room i wouldnt recommend the blow up bed) and a sleeping bag, i would say since its pretty much summer you would only need a one season, but a two season would be brilliant - your choice, all depends on how much you have to spend. make sure you have a couple of good water-bottles to carry around during the day. bring a couple of GOOD and RELIABLE torches and bring lots of spare batteries! have a good day pack (backpack/rucksack) that is specially made for hiking or camping. bring a tin cup, a mess-tin/durable plate & bowl, and a fork, table knife and spoon - dont forget a towel to dry them after washing up! bring something non electronic to entertain yourself, like a small book, a pack of cards/top trumps, a small ball ect. make sure you have toilet paper and tissues. in terms of a first aid kit, buy one from a specialised outdoors store - only buy a small one as your leaders would have a big kit with everything, buy one which contains perhaps plasters (band aids..not sure what they are called in america - if you are in america!), a couple of different types of bandages, maybe some antiseptic cream, safety pins, a pair of rubber gloves ect. but make sure you buy a pre packed first aid kit, dont buy everything in the kit yourself and put it in the bag. in food terms, just bring lots of snacks! healthy or unhealthy - its up to you! but from experiance, if you buy loads of healthy snacks you tend to avoid them once youre camping. i would pack all of this in a big hiking pack and NOT a suitcase - tents arent designed to pack away suitcases. i would take an 80-90l hiking pack. hope this has helped! sorry if i forgot anything.

Bring about 3 clean scout uniforms. You are likely to get dirty and the scouts like clean uniforms.Bring underwear and socks, you will likely sweat in them. First aid bring bandages, a hunting knife, a compass, and waterproof matches, and if you are like diabetic, bring insulin shots.
