Can i use caramel dip to make caramel apples?

  • long story short, i sent my husband to the store to get caramel(i know, i know. Never send a man to do ANYTHING) and since i didnt specify CARAMEL CANDIES THAT I CAN MELT, he came home with 3 things of caramel dip.. Anyway i can harden it so i can make my candy apples? Thanks!

I totally feel you on the man thing... lol. Caramel dip doesn't harden too well. If you think about it, it's kept in the fridge where it stays creamy, so even if you put it in the fridge like you would melted caramels, it would just stay goopy. Your best bet would just to slather it on your apples before serving, or just cut up apples and dip.

It want hardened because the caramel dips generally have condensed milk in them and that keeps it from getting hard like a normal caramel candy. You can make your own with some sugar and corn syrup. Of course I'm a man so I'm not sure if you can rely on such advice. :P Jacob
