Medical Administrative Assistant?

Whats better a Medical Administrative Assistant or an Medical Assistant? Or whats the differences?

  • I want to do Medical Administrative Assistant online, but very time I type in Medical Administrative Assistants jobs for my hometown (Oklahoma City) it always pops up with Medical Assistants; and that's not what I'm wanting. I want to know whats the differences between the two, and I would also want to know if Oklahoma expects Medical Administrative Assistant certificates? I don't want to waste time studying online if I'm not gonna be able to use my certificate in my home state... thanks.

  • Answer:

Admin assistants typically become office managers and deal with the paperwork and office work of a hospital or dr. office. A medical assistant is the person who writes down your complaints and symptoms, takes your blood pressure, pulse and temperature, and who gives shots in the office. There are more medical assistant jobs out there, but admin. assistants have the potential for advancement and higher pay. When doing a search in your area, just look for administrative assistant and leave the medical part out. You will learn enough in that field to be able to be an office manager in a variety of places, not just medical facilities. You can also look on salary.com for salary information on both degrees in your area to compare, but i'm pretty sure admins make more money.
