What is the point of the levels and points of Yahoo Answer?
-
I do not get the points and levels of Yahoo Answer. I mean, can we utilize the points to win or recieve something? Really, WHATS THE POINT???
-
Answer:
The points are pretty much 'pointless'. We can only SPEND them (to ask questions) and COLLECT them (to move up through the Yahoo! Answers levels ... each higher level a user attains earns greater daily participation privileges on the site). That's it and that's all. Y!A points are not redeemable for prizes, and are worthless anywhere except here on Yahoo! Answers. Points have no monetary value and there are no prizes, no cigars no nada, it's really just the satisfaction of helping others, no strings attached., or possibly bragging rights (big deal). There are seven levels, more points give you more participation rights so it can also be an ego thing and keep us interested.. To move up answer lots of questions, the maximum you can do every day trying for best answer which gives you ten points, and avoid asking questions that costs you five points. When you ask a question be sure to return and pick a best answer to get 3 points back. Be sure to vote for undecided questions, you get a point for that. Nothing really except personal gratification of reaching a higher level. There are a few benefits like rating and answering more questions beyond level 1. - Jacob As far as points go. Now keep in mind that some people or many are not here for points. Many, like myself, enjoy helping people. In the end it's all about feeling good that you helped someone have a better day. I guess if you don't feel rewarded for helping someone it's pointless to be here. ?

I think it was on their first anniversary that real prizes were once given out. I got a Y!A water bottle. The top few folks got sweatshirts, I seem to recall. Since that time, however, there have not been any prizes given. There won't be, either, again. It was a one-off. Now, the points are good for asking questions and leveling up. That's all. It just lets others know how active you are on the site, really.
