What would be a good entry level job?

What are some good job sites for entry level accounting jobs and internships?

  • I'm looking for an internship or job or really anything that can give me experience in the accounting field. I was wondering if anyone knows about specific sites just for accounting people. Unfortunately i have no experience and i am a senior in college with a not so great gpa. I had a 3.3ish at my 2 year school and then i transferred and started with a brand new transcript and i messed up my first semester leaving me with a 2.1ish. My grades are coming in from this semester but i cant imagine my gpa being greater than a 2.75ish. So just to summarize; No experience College Senior 2.75ish GPA Looking for; Entry level Accounting Job (anywhere, small to big firms) Internship (Paid or Unpaid) I live in New York, USA. Any advice/help/leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This site has entry level accountant jobs. It is good because there are junior accounting positions available. You might want to consider looking for jobs with titles such as bookkeeper, accounts payable clerk, accounts receivable clerk, payroll clerk, etc, to get your foot in the door. From my own experience, it is easy to move up within a company's accounting department fairly quickly. http://www.entryleveljobsinnyc.com/entry-level-accountant-jobs/

Have you considered specializing in tax? Because it's a specialty, there's less competition for jobs/internships than general accounting, and the work is more interesting! There are lots of opportunities in New York since it's such a big city, but with your GPA it might be hard at the bigger firms. Internships are extremely valuable because they count as real-world work experience so if you can find one, take it. However, since you're a senior, you don't have much time left in the school year to find an internship, so your options may be limited there. There are lots of firms out there, however, and if you can show them you're a hard worker it could compensate for your GPA. Additionally, you might want to consider going on for a Master's degree (either an MS Tax, a Master's in Accounting, or an MBA) - it's a chance to bring your grades up, build additional skills and knowledge, and complete internships.
