Which Road Bike Should I Buy?
-
To cut to the chase, I'm a 5'7, 31inch inseam high school student who doesn't want to drive, and am interested in purchasing a $200-$300 road bike for commuting. After retiring my crappy 'free spirit' sears branded road bike, i did a weeks worth of research to see what i can get for my budget. So i've been looking on the classifieds for a good deal, and have pinpointed a couple choices. At first, my original hunts were all for vintage fixies or single speeds. (Peugeot, bianchi etc.) I was hoping to get something low maintenance, agile, and faster than my old 31 pound junk. This basically cut out any decision for a vintage 10 speed. Seller says its a paint-chipped Raleigh frame, I know it's too big for me but my plan was to strip its parts and throw in a vintage 21 inch. http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-bikes-road-Slick-Single-Speed-For-Sale-W0QQAdIdZ382085114 http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-bikes-road-Vintage-1982-Nishiki-Olympic-Single-Speed-Road-Bike-W0QQAdIdZ382542438 Then, I found a couple deals selling more recent and cheap multi-speed road bikes that were worth considering. Although they werent fixies, I took into account the newer technology frame and up to date parts. Seller says this is a 2008 Giant TCR A1, MRSP $1500. Husband doesn't ride it anymore so she'll let it go for $400, i know it's out of my budget but if it's really a good deal, I could cough up a bit more. http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-bikes-road-21-speed-giant-road-bike-W0QQAdIdZ382362652 http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-bikes-road-ALUMINUM-ROADBIKE-NEW-W0QQAdIdZ382552805 So my question is, which one of these deals would be the best bang for buck, or most suitable for me? If none of these are good deals, let me know as well.

Answer:
Keep looking I would buy anyone of them. That Giant is not a 2008 TCR A1 not even close. Too bad it isn't. With 21 speeds it's much older and not worth more then $150. No size given anyway. http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2008&Brand=Giant&Model=TCR+A1&Type=bike Edit: That Giant may be a 2007 model and the poster gave the wrong information. Find out what it actually is and the frame size. If it fits and feels good offer $300 and settle for $350 at most. Edit: You would be a fool to buy that Raleigh over the Guant just becaise it may get stolen. You would be a fool to buy the Raleigh period.

I think this is the bike and is a 2008. http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2008&Brand=Giant&Model=TCR&Type=bike The wheels are not the originals which could be a good thing. The original components, Tiagra are just middle of the pack although some like them. Yet, given the original price it is just a bit over priced but not too much. If you take the original price minus 50% and 5-10% per year, it is about right. Get it before I get it, lol. It will be many times better than a fixie. You probably have never ridden a bike that good. It will feel right. make sure it is your size thou.
