• I was wanting to kno how ta change gears on a dirtbike, I think that u start on the bottom and go up a gear every time with ur foot but I dnt remember because I haven't rode a dirtbike since last summer also I was wonderin when do u know ta change gears on a dirtbike because I have been ridin 4wheelers so much I forgot how ta ride my dirtbike so will sum1 plz tell me how ta change gears and when ta change gears on a dirtbike Thnk u.......

  Quickly, if it's a standard bike it'll be 1 down and 4 up, so the gears are 1 N 2 3 4 5. You shift up when you're not really getting any more power from the throttle and shift down when the engine starts to 'chug'. That's the quick description. A bit long one is that if you remember you usually start off in neutral, some bikes even require it. Pull the clutch in, shift down to go into first and release, let the clutch out slowly depending on your skill (maybe some throttle, but I wouldn't recommend more than a quarter turn until you get back into the swing). When the revs get really high, and you're not really getting any more response from the throttle, pull the clutch in, solid shift up through neutral into second, release the clutch. Do that each time you need to go up. If the revs get too low, you need to down shift, so... pull the clutch in, down shift solidly, and slowly let the clutch out (until you get back into the swing). If you haven't match engine speed to your gears, you'll do a hard engine break, so make sure you let it out slowly until the feel comes back. Remember, it's kind of like a stapler, each time you shift, you have to release the shift so it can reset. You can't go from 1-5, without going through 2, 3, and 4. Hope that jogs your memory.
