    While the soil isn't injured if you plant out of season, there isn't much profit in doing so. If you go out and scatter your entire store of seed at the wrong time, you'll end up starving. The heat loving crops need to be sowed in the spring, while the cool season crops need to be planted in the autumn. Sowing seed is planting, correct. But there is no point in planting out of season as the seeds will not germinate and grow - because it's too cold or hot or wet or whatever the plant likes. It will not damage the soil but the seeds may rot or shrivel up.
