Can you take an antihistamine and a decongestant at the same time?

How many Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg/Antihistamine tablets should I take in order to get me sleepy?

  • I have an allergy problem plus some insomnia problem so I take Benadryl to help me sleep and calm my allergies but I am out of Benadryl at the moment, and the only allergy pills I have in my medicine cabinet are Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg/Antihistamine tablets (ZYRTEC I guess is the generic brand name but these are CVS pharmacy brand). I read the label and it says drowsiness may occur and to only take 1 pill a day, but instead I thought since its a CVS brand I should UP the dose to 2. ( I have a pretty high tolerance to prescription meds due to the fact that I've gotten injured a lot so all those pain meds I guess my body adapted to them over time, But I NEVER gotten HOOKED on them, always followed the instructions printed on the labels) So after a while I felt that they didn't get me sleepy. So I was wondering how many should I take in order to get me sleepy? Since it says only 1 a day I don't want to be damaging my body or anything.

zyrtec is the active form of Atarex, an anti nausea med, they don 't have a sleep affect, they do, but they really don't esp if you are used to them/ got any Nyquil, the older product, the new one is without alcohol, store brands have the alcohol. Do you have chlortrimeton? This is an antihistamine. I would not even consider zyrtec as a sleep med even without benadryl. go to the store and even the generic brand of walmart/kmart 25mg will work just fine, plus you get more than the brand name, diphenhydramine is the generic name for benadryl. They are not addictive. If you drink caffeine or take any decongestants with sudafed , that's a stimulant, good luck trying to sleep.
