Can I freeze a rose?

Best way to preserve/freeze/etc. a rose? (sentimental meaning)?

  • I just got flowers sent to me yesterday, and there is a very sentimental meaning. I'd like to save one of the roses, or rose petals, something... just as a memory, but I don't know how to do it. It doesn't have to look exactly the same as it does today, but I basically want to keep it in such a way that it doesn't rot or decompose beyond recognition. Do I freeze it, or what do I do? Thanks.

Go to a craft store and get some silica gel--it is in little pellet form. Put some gel in a box big enough to hold the rose without the stem. Clip the stem off of the rose with pruning loppers or a sharp knife. Nestle the rose in the box and pour the gel around it sweeping some with your hand into the rose--not too much you don't want to warp the rose. Completely cover the rose with the gel. Put the lid on and set it aside somewhere at room temperature. It will take a few weeks to dry. Once it is completely dry you can insert florists wire into the rose and tape with florists tape or you can put it in a rose bowl
