Am I allergic to cats?

Brother's allergic to cats, help!?

  • so my brother is allergic to cats, he can't really breathe around them, gets red eyes and a blocked nose. the thing is i really want a kitten for my birthday and i know my mum would love a cat aswell. apparently you are either allergic to cats with long or short hair, is that true? we've had short haired cats before and that's what he's allergic to, is there are breed that he won't be allergic to or is it likely that long haired cats won't make him react to them? please no answers like: just don't get a cat, or something like that...thanks!

    1) You could get allergy shots (my brother did that) 2) You could take a pill 3) I used to be allergic to cats too, but I randomly grew out of it. Maybe he can too. 4) The type of cat. For example, we have a dog that is hypoallergenic. Therefore, our neighbors, who are allergic to dogs, can pet her without reactions. I don't know if there are any hypoallergenic cats, but who knows. I'm allergic to cats too and we've had a cat in our house for a few years. I can't live in my own home without suffering badly until the cat dies because my allegy has gotten worse. Long haired cats affect me the same as short haired. I've heard that hairless cats (the ones that look like rats) don't affect people with allergies and they do a really cool splashy thing with their paws in the bath! (youtube it if you like) The only way to know is to get your brother and the cat you want together before deciding to buy it. Then you will know if he is allergic or not.
