How do i connect my xbox controller to my pc? PLEASE HELP?

Ok so i watch alot of you tube videos and i really seem to like the custom zombie maps and great things like that and i know how to download them and everything.The thing is i cant use a mouse and keyboard what so ever!I do have an xbox slim,and a wireless controller (if it makes any difference) Oh bye the way its for call of duty world at war.But i just want to know if i can use my xbox controller for my pc?Im willing to download safe softwares or maybe buy a few things.PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
