Answer:
Best of luck with the programme! here some suggestions. 1) Leadership divide the children into groups of 3 or 4 and ask each group to choose a leader. Have some discussion on why each group chose their leader and what things they think are important in a leader. then give the group a challenge. It can be a treasure hunt, and get the leader to give each group member particular tasks. in a treasure hunt perhaps one person in the group will read the map and one or two others could race to find the treasure as quickly as possible. then have each group write down what was good or bad about having a leader and was it easier or harder to do the task. discuss in largge group the results of each small group. 2) Personality development. talk to them a bit about what a personality is and how each of them have a unique personality but that all of them would share traits with others in the group. Discuss traits such as quiet, aggressive, loud, teacher, friendly, etc... Then get the whole group together outdoors and mark out different places for people with different traits will stand. explain where the quiet or reserved people will stand, where the noisy people will stand, where the peacemakers will stand, where the warriors will stand then ask the kids to go and stand where they think they belong. Discuss with the kids why they chose what they chose and then discuss that people can choose to move to where they want to be and ask each of the kids to choose a trait they would like to have and as they think of how they could adopt that trait let them move over to that area. 3) Confidence Building. teach kids new skills and their confidence will build naturally. Let them do something they are sure they can't do and watch them change before your eyes. It could be taking on a local volunteer job, ie clean up a park or street scape etc, creating a community artwork ie mural, grafitti art, or mosaic, or get the kids to work on a project for a better environment etc. 4) Anger management get the kids into groups of 2 or 3 and ask each group to create an artwork that shows anger as they think it looks. reassure them there is no right or wrong way to do it. ask them to talk in groups about what anger is and how they can manage it themselves. Once the artworks are done get each group to present there artwork and talk about it to the others groups. round off the anger management session by letting the kids know that anger is only a feeling. It can feel like a very strong feeling or a very little feeling but like all feelings if we just let it go it will pass. Discuss what is the opposite of anger?
