My skateboard deck has dents in it, is that normal?

Can i put a metal rim around the deck of my skateboard so i won't get anymore dents or scratches on it?

• i bought a long board skateboard and i only use it to ride and nothing else. i already got a few small scratches and dents on the top front and the back end. i was wondering if i can put a aluminum sheet around the deck of my board to help prevent anymore dents or chipping but how could i get one and cut it out and stick it to my board without nails or screws.

  It is possible, but not wise. That band will likely come loose after the first major impact, and can become a major cut hazard.
