My pet rabbit is shaking after being outside?

Why is my rabbit doing this?

  • So, yes, I am new to rabbits so please don't say i am uneducated. First, what does it mean when my rabbit licks me for a while and starts biting me? How about poking with her nose? And what does it mean when she does a binky and lies down and relaxes than starts shaking her ears and nose like she saw a monster or something? Please answer!! Oh yeah, and what does it mean when my rabbit lies down on my lap with it's ears straight up? Scared? Happy? Alert? LAST question, is it ok if I build a pen out of chairs and boxes because I live somewhere where the pet stores don't have pens, only cages?

  • Answer:

Bunnies show affection by grooming, so if your rabbit gently nuzzles and licks you, and perhaps even tries to nibble you gently, it is showing you that it loves you and cares for you. If your bunny nudges you and then sits there expectantly, that is a sign that he or she wants a head rub. Binkies are when a rabbit leaps in the air and flips its ears around. Binkies mean that your bunny is happy and content. A rabbit that is sitting with all four feet still on the ground and ears up and facing toward the front is content. Wiggling The Nose: Rabbits do not wiggle their nose to breath, and they can smell things just fine without moving their nose. A scared rabbit will not wiggle its nose at all. This is a sign that the rabbit is ready to run away, if the rabbit is showing other signs of being scared. A very relaxed rabbit will often not wiggle its nose either, because it is just too relaxed to move at all! If the rabbit is not ready to flee, the nose will wiggle according to how interested it is in something. The more excited a rabbit gets or a rabbit that is upset will wiggle its nose quickly. A slower nose wiggle is a sign that the rabbit is calm and fairly relaxed. If bunny Looks at you and wiggles ears he/she is happy, wants to interact... Both ears up with inside of ear facing forward friendly, happy bunny...

Read this about bunny body language! http://language.rabbitspeak.com/ The licking/gentle nips is affection. I don't get licked by my rabbits as I'm merely their lowly slave and are not deemed worthy enough haha! For the cage, chairs/boxes does not sound secure enough. They are escapees! Do any pet shops near you sell dog crates? If you get a couple of XL (3 or 4 foot long) ones and join them end to end you can make quite a good bunny home! Much more height than any cage "meant" for rabbits too. Bunny proof the room the rabbit lives in as best you can and let them have supervised free ranging time.
