Where can I find composted chicken or cow manure in Northern New Jersey?

    Do a little research and look for poultry farmers. They will be more than happy to have you visit with a couple of 5 gallon buckets and a shovel. You can get all you need for FREE. I did just that to find rabbit manure. Rabbit manure is the only manure that does not need to cure before using. I found a local rabbit farmer who is so happy to give me manure any time I want it. I use it in my compost bin. I also use 1/4 of a 5 gallon bucket of manure and add 3/4 of a bucket of water. I let it sit in the sun for a day or 2 then use it to water my roses and vegetable plants. OMG!! My plants are monsters!!! Happy gardening!

Jersey is called "the garden state" for a reason. Lots of gardens and farmers. I don't know how far you're willing to travel or what section of North Jersey you're in, but there are farmers, even in North Jersey. I'm not so sure about chickens, but I've been on a dairy farm in Stockton (which is just a bit north of Trenton and one of those "don't blink or you'll miss it" little towns. Western half has more farms than eastern half, but I'll bet even that crowded part of Jersey right across from NYC has farmers in there somewhere. If not, look for farmer's markets. If you find them, you find vendors with gardens or farms, who can probably tell you where they get their fertilizer. As for Lowes and Home Depot? I know. I'm in Philly and they don't see it here either. I could go out of the city to find some, if I weren't too lazy and had a place to put it, once I had it. (Dinky backyard. lol)

I just bought a 40 pound bag of cow manure at a garden center for $3.99
