What to do on a first time job at McDonald's?

First time job seeker, is a "unique resume" good idea or too cocky?

  • I am 18 years old (with 1 year of high school left) and looking for my first entry level part time job (Office Depot, Best Buy, Big Lots, etc). As of now I have been using the traditional resume format but with no job experience and only school, even I feel like its extremely cheesy to try and pump up "fluff" like after school activities, interests, etc and pretend to make it seem noteworthy. So I was thinking maybe ditch the old school resume and try something more bold. Maybe try an infograph with something like "Do you NEED to hire someone with previous work experience? Yes? Then I am not your guy! And "Do you want someone that has never given up and actually cares about customers? Yes? ... Then continue boasting positive real things about myself... I do not want to sound too cocky or unprofessional but I doubt its any worse than my current dullest and most bland resume they have probably seen 1,000 times over. What do you think? Good idea or too unprofessional? Any other idea for getting over the lack of any job experience? I know I would be a valuable asset to anyone who hires me. I have a 3.8 GPA, honestly love helping customers, and I get praises all the time. But the lack of job experience is killing my chances, I can't even get to the interview stages! lol I would just go to Mickey D's, but I got some food allergies and do not want to compromise my health. Are there any other "sure hires" like Mcdonalds, but not dealing with food?

  • Answer:

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to stand out then do a good Cover Letter and really stress your achievements. Don't try to be "cocky". Even though most jobs do want an enthusiastic type person, they still want a serious and professional worker. You'll be mistaken as somebody who has no idea what they're doing and you'll be laughed at and your resume will probably be thrown away.
