My iphone as a modem?

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS, serial year/week 136 at modem 5.16.05?

Hello! I've read through a LOT about jailbreaking and unlocking on this website (it's wonderful thank you!) and others and watched YouTube videos. However, with more recent updates and the untethered 5.1.1 jailbreak set to release from pod2g soon, is it compatible with my iPhone 3GS, with serial # year/week 136, model MC555LL, modem firmware 05.16.05? I truly do not want to end up with a brick but i need to unlock my phone (still on contract with AT&T). I've read a lot on how serial 136 is not able to be jailbroken/unlocked and other caveats with the modem firmware... any recommendations? Is the new untethered program compatible with 3GS 136 finally?? Thanks!
