Anyone has a late period because of progesterone?

Has anyone skipped a period because of low progesterone?

• I came off the pill in January and have had 33 day periods (exactly) ever since then. However, I was supposed to start a week ago and have not. My gyno did some blood work and said my progesterone was 0.5, but that was taken right before I was supposed to ovulate (if I calculated correctly). I've read several things that said progesterone levels should be determined low after ovulation, but my gyno said my progesterone was too low to support a pregnancy and the blood work had been done before ovulation. Has anybody experienced anything similar? What happened? I just find it odd b/c I have never missed a period in my life (except for when I was pregnant with my son). And yes, urine tests have been negative.

  Yes low progesterone would make you skip a period. Your progesterone reaches its peak right before you menstruate and then it drops to a low. Therefore if your progesterone was low, it would never be reaching a peak, which lead to not menstruating. Unfortunately there is not much they can do for this. They have progesterone supplements called provera that should start a period, however, this medication does not bring on ovulation, just bleeding. However sometimes this can be known to kick start a regular cycle. Metformin and other drugs that contain hormone balancing active ingredients MAY however be able to start a regular cycle. Some doctors claim that low carb dieting can also do this. Vitex is an herbal supplement (agnus berry) that can be bought at GNC stores or other nutritional stores that have also been known to regulate hormones. If you do however get pregnant, you need to be put on supplements for your low progesterone immediaetly.
