My fiance lost his birth certificate and we need to get a replacement. Please help.?

He moved up here to Vermont with me at the beginning of April, and lost it in a friend's car. Our friend has found it, but it keeps getting returned to him in the mail, or so he says. We're starting to think this guy isn't even trying. My fiance NEEDS his BC to get a job up here. Problem is, we cannot just go to the hospital he was born at and get him a replacement. He was born in California. - How should we go about getting his replacement?

He will probably be able to get it faster if he contacts the county clerk's office of the county in which he was born than if he contacts the state vital records office. You can google for addresses, costs, phone #'s, etc. Note: He needs a certified copy. Faxing doesn't cut it - bad advice. Maybe his friend would send the birth certificate if you provided him with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Unless, of course, he's sold it to an illegal alien.

He needs to contact the County Records Office in the county he was born in. They'll let him know what he needs to do in order to obtain a copy of his Birth Certificate.

*facepalm* All he needs to do is contact California's Department of Vital Statistics. They should have a registry with all registered live births in their state. You are an adult getting married, and yet couldn't even figure this out? Please do NOT have kids right away.

Contact County Clerk of courts pay a small fee and get a copy faxed to him, simple as that. Go to unemployment job center to use fax machine for free.
