How should I connect my line-level amp?

How to connect 1 powered speaker to integrated amp?

  • I currently have 2 cerwin vega's hooked up to my yamaha integrated amp ( au-900 ) and I just bought 1 mackie thump 15'. The guy at the music store told me I could connect the Mackie to the headphone jack on the integrated amp. However, the Mackie makes hissing noises and ****. It doesn't sound right and I know this is NOT the correct way to set it up.I can't connect the Mackie to the "pre-outs" of the integrated amp because I still want to use the cerwin vega's at the same time. So, whats my cheapest option to hook the Mackie up to the system? I use my laptop to send the audio signal to the integrated amp. Should I buy a cheap 2-Channel mixer for the Mackie to connect too? I was also told I could use a Peavey USB-P - USB "Direct Box" for Outputting Computer Audio to PA System? Here is the link to it. I've been told so many different things, I just want a cheap way to hook my Mackie up to my current system and make it sound awesome. I spent a lot of money on the Mackie and the hissing/crackling noise is pissing me off. Thanks!
