How to install Windows 7 Professional 32-bit OS to replace Windows XP Professional SP2 OS without losing data?

  • I currently have Windows XP Professional SP2 32- bit operating system on my computer. I need to upgrade and replace it with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit operating system without losing my data in the other drives. I have a bootable Windows 7 Professional CD/DVD.

  • Answer:

When you install Windows 7 it will ask you whether you want to use express method of Custom(advanced) method, choose Custom method. It will notify you that the old operating system as well as files will be saved in a new folder named "windows.old" after you install the fresh copy of Wind7.

You should run window 7 advisor on XP it will show u all ur software & drivers incompatible with window 7 and checks your PC for minimum system requirements. before upgrading take you data to a pendrive or try formatting only C drive if u do so ur data would be safe in others drives when u run window 7.
