Why do we need to sleep?

Why don't I ever feel like I need to sleep anymore?

  • Lately, I just don't seem to get tired. I don't drink coffee or anything, so caffeine's not the issue. I just don't ever feel like or want to sleep. I mean, I can and I do, but it's not because I feel tired, I just go to bed because I feel like it would be abnormal to stay up all night. Over the weekend, for example, I've been waking up at 8 or 9am, and I would stay up until 5am. And even at that point, I don't feel tired, I just feel like I should sleep, because it's getting light out. I have no trouble falling asleep either, sleep just feels optional now; I can sleep for very few hours and still feel absolutely fine the next day. Last night I stayed up until 4am practicing for a presentation and woke up at 7am, and my day has been fine. Am I just adjusting to a new circadian rhythm, or is this a sleep disorder of some sort?
