Longest avenue of lime trees in the world?

All you longtime gardeners and planters, a newbie gardener/planter needs your help/advice!?

  • Hi there r/gardening! Just recently (Last Christmas) we were approved for our very first house! Which meant no more stinking apartments! Along with 7 other dogs.. yeah we definetly needed a house haha! I just came back from my 2nd year of college, and decided to finally bring about one of my bucketlist to create a garden! Yesterday, after lurking craigslist and home depot and a couple of flea markets, we were able to acquire several raised boxed planters, a couple of fruit trees and several seeds! There are a lot of questions I would love to get answered. 1.For the raised box planters project, how often should I water them? The seeds were taken directly from the packet and spread evenly among their respective boxes. I placed them in the front so they can get plenty of sun. http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#0 2.For the Key Lime tree, how often should it be watered? http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#5 3.The blueberry bush! I want to plant it, how much space or where should I plant it? I heard it requires 6 feet of diameter because they tend to expand a lot. I also want it to be enclosed within the fence since our husky loves to destroy stuff.. http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#6 4.Same thing for the avocado tree, how often should it be watered? 4a. I notices some leaves were turning into a yelloy grayish ugly color, should they be cut/trimmed? http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#7 Ugly leaves http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#8 5.This naked guamuchil tree, how often should it be watered? http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#9 6.Peach tree, was already there when we bought the house, has small fruits on it! How often should it be watered? http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#10 OMG LITTLE TESTICLES GROWING! http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#11 7.Nothing really about the pinto bean project, since last semester I was growing one out of my window in 50 degree cold weather! I was kicked from the house my roomates and I were renting, so I had to let go of the little guy.. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2466467817427&set=a.1189135404915.2029791.1124222656&type=3&theater There's a picture of my actual very first plant growing! Is this the correct method of germinating seeds? http://imgur.com/a/0b2bF#13 All the seeds I'm currently trying to germinate are also from the raised box planters project, so in case they fail to sprout, I'l have these germinated seeds ready to be planted! Thank you all! I really love nature and the beauty of the world and how it brings us life and how we're able to bring life as well! PS. I'm vegetarian, hence my love for animals and plants! :D

Join your local Horticultural Society. They often give workshops and have monthly meetings where they demonstrate different aspects of gardening. 1: Box Planters: You should have 1 1/2 to 2" of gravel in the bottom of these boxes for drainage covered with Landscape material to prevent the soil from mixing with the gravel. The soil should be light loam with lots of humus (Spagnum or Peat moss). Fill to 1/2" below the top of the boxes. 2: Key Lime - Check this site for your answer: http://www.keylime.com/horti.html 3: Blueberries - Check this site for your answer: http://www.portkellsnurseries.com/?id=growingblueberry PS: Your husky may still get at the blueberry bush when the berries ripen. Many dogs as well as birds love currents and blueberries. 4: Avocado - Check this site for your answer: http://www.tropicamango.com/avocado.html 5:guamuchil tree - Check these sites for your answer: http://gardenpool.org/fruit-trees/guamuchil-tree http://findmeacure.com/2011/01/23/guamuchil-sweet-tamarined/ http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55957/ 6: Peach tree - Check these sites for your answer: http://www.ehow.com/how_4516271_grow-peach-trees-texas.html 7: Pinto bean - You already know how to grow these Some plants do not transplant well. Research the plants you wish to start from seed first. If they do not transplant well, plant the seeds in individual peat pots/cubes. Once growing high (Roots should be just showing through the peat pots/cubes) enough, transplant them to their final location. Good Luck

That's not to say you can't put your hates-freeze trees in containers and bring them in for the winter, assuming you have sunny windows to put them near and keep them small and trimmed. Little piece of advice for the future though - good idea to know if you can do something, before buying the someting to do. (No put-down. I learned that the hard way too. lol)

WOW you really got the garden bug. For proper seed and plant placement in your boxes check http://squarefootgardening.org The principles for spacing apply to your boxes. I'm afraid the avocado won't survive your winters unless green housed. I live in zone 9b and a hard freeze will kill a young avocado and damage a mature one. They are grown in zone 10 or warmer. I also have doubts about your key lime. Citrus does well in my zone but I don't think it can survive your winters. Seeds and newly planted plants need to be watered daily. Water early in the morning. Depending on the variety a blue berry can get large. They need very acid soil ph of 5 - 5 1/2 and most varieties are not self pollinating and need 2 plants to produce fruit. Before you spend more money and more time and effort contact your County Agent for the suitability of plants in your region. The advice is free.
