    i just got mine off today, so i have 26 months of experience. Follow what your orthodontist says. Yes, it will hurt, ice cream is awesome for it. advil or ibuprofen is also good. it will hurt for a few days then for the rest of the time it won't. when you get it adjusted it always hurts for 2-3 days. rubber bands help shift your teeth into place and help align them. if your teeth aren't straight, it can cause problems if your teeth decide to grow in and move in certain ways. I find that it was worth everything. i never had a cavity and after my braces, i had one. i thought i was smart, i wasn't, i brushed everyday and used listerine. i didn't floss and i didn't follow the list on what not to eat. listen to your orthodontist, he/she knows what their talking about.

I believe the rubber bands help move the teeth as fast as possible. Also, I think the rubber bands guide the teeth in a particular direction. As far as braces hurting..... Well.... They may hurt each time the ortho tightens them up. To me, it was tolerable. The rubber bands hurt a little as they put pressure on the teeth to move. Again, nothing too bad. It only lasts for a couplw days each time new bands are placed and each time the braces are tightened. One thing I do remember is the metal that overhangs on the very last tooth, scraps against the cheek. That can hurt a bit too. You will have to keep putting wax there to prevent this.

Yes, it hurts, Hands down. You are going to need braces to fix crowding or your bite is incorrect. Meaning if your bite if incorrect it can affect your speech and the way your tongue is like placed kinda? LOL. Rubber bands are used to pull the jaw forward, back, to the left or the right .
