How do i become a bass fishing guide?

  • I'm an excellent bass fisherman when i'm not fishing im studying their movements, moon phases, feeding times, and weather. I want to become a bass fishing guide and would like to know what is necessary to get started? Whats the average pay and what will i need to become a bass fishing guide?.

    I believe you have to take some classes to be Coast guard certified to be a Captain, I'm not sure exactly what its called. Once you go through that long and hard process of becoming certified you will need to fish everyday and find what lures are working when and find good fishing spots where nobody else goes to. The Average pay for a skilled, experienced guide is 2-3 hundred half a day and more for a full day. It really depends on your experience. Honestly I'm wasting my time because you wont become a Fishing guide by reading these answers here, go online and do some research.

First of all you must start at the bottom. Age should not be a factor however there are several steps to do before becoming a guide. 1.If you are near a large well known lake (Lake Fork,Lake Lanier, etc.) and fish it as often as you can in all types of weather. Have some business cards made with your guide service name and pass them out at the local marinas and gas stations. 2. Once you have your honey holes selected log them into your GPS unit. 3. Must have a reliable boat with a back up plan should the motor quit or any other emergency. 4. Have Insurance in case something happens to one of the guests. 5. Know the boating laws of your state and any licenses which you must have for guiding. One more thing get to know the local guides and ask them if you can be a helper. Yes you may have to do some dirty work. (cleaning the fish, cleaning the guides boat etc) you will learn a lot from them. I could go on but remember to cover your ur know what before guiding. Pay depends on what you want to charge any where from $100 dollars per half day for one person. Good Luck don't give up. You'd have to establish a reputation as a great bass fisherman,by winning competitions,or consistently getting positive press from your success at it,like trophies and stuff like that from getting big ones and many of them.draw attention to your achievements,picture in the newspapers all the time etc,and then after you build it,get the permits,or licenses and whatnot from whoever manages it,and then advertise your services.like the other answerer said,you'd probably have to start off as a mate for someone already established,and branch out on your own once you learn the ropes well enough.
