What does it take to be a Biomedical engineer?

What does it take to become a civil engineer during the Recession?

  • To add to this important question, I graduated from California State University - Long Beach in Dec. 2009 and got my EIT in 2010. On top of all of this, I interned with Los Angeles County Public Works for 3 solid years. I don't know what I'm doing wrong for the passed 1 1/2 years, but it's been very difficult for me to even start my journey to become a licensed engineer. As of now, I've been keeping myself afloat doing random tutoring and temp jobs. Because of this frustration with the recession and all, I'm planning to go to grad school at San Diego State University to get a master's degree in civil engineering with the emphasis of environmental engineering and also plan to study abroad in Germany for a semester or two studying and interning to broaden my network outside of the US in addition to joining Toastmasters to improve my communication skills and joining Engineers Without Borders. I know that was a lot I just typed, but I wanted to give you all some details to give me the best advice. So, do you any of you think my current plan to go back to get master's degree and studying abroad would open more opportunities for me as an engineer? Although, some people have told me to look into getting into other fields, I vehemently believe in the engineering field and they are the fields, along with the sciences, that the US and the world needs. I would greatly appreciate the advice, but if I can, would prefer advice from individuals already working in the field professionally; engineer, professor, or related, but I'll openly take any advice. Thank you.
