Is Yahoo trying to get bought by Facebook?
-
You may have noticed that, as of recently, it has become impossible to post comments on Yahoo News articles unless you unblock Facebook and/or Twitter (which may be blocked, for example, if using Firefox with AdBlockPlus or NoScript). This started around May 2012, and even before that on articles under "The Ticket" (elections news). Since then, there have been many questions on various blogs asking why Yahoo Comments isn't working properly (even on Yahoo Answers, see question "20120510051510AArqebD", or google "facebook pop up" along with the word "yahoo"). Now, it should be noted that it is perfectly normal to keep Facebook and Twitter blocked if you are not a Facebook or Twitter user. There is no legitimate reason why Yahoo News should force you to unblock them. One obvious reason might be that Yahoo is trying to promote Facebook. This begs several questions: 1. Did Yahoo cut a deal with Facebook, that they will force Facebook onto us? 2. Or, is Yahoo making a blatant overture to Facebook, to try to get acquired by them? 3. Which would be worse, Yahoo getting bought by Facebook or Microsoft? 4. How can the Yahoo user community persuade Yahoo to cut the c.r.a.p.? 5. Are people who don't use Facebook going to wind up in concentration camps?

Answer:
1. Apparently. But it's pretty rude that you are now forced to deal with Faceborg nonsense in order to use Yahoo Comments. 2. Could be, especially now that Faceborg is grossly overvalued (just like AOL in 2000). 3. Either would be a disaster. You'll get stuff pushed on you that you don't want, and get tracked every which-way. 4. Dunno... not sure if they want to hear from users. 5. When people think you're weird for not using Faceborg, it's a bad sign. Just Say No to faceborg.

It looks like they are trying to be bought by somebody. Facebook is just a good buyer as any other.
