How to know if i have ADD?

I want to add another hard disk how do I know if it's compatible?

  • I am using a pentium 4 desktop pc and running on an ASrock mother board and I have a 60GB HDD and would like to add the second one. What should i know before I do this and what should I know before I buy one and how do I know if it is compatible? Thanks

    Decide what size you want buy it install it and format it then your good to go. If it's a I.D.E. drive you need or a S.A.T.A. drive they will all work. You will need the hookups to install it , cables or adapter for s.a.t.a., remember to ground yourself when installing to avoid a short or wear a static wristband. Hope this helps good luck.

That is an old, outdated computer. Not worth spending any money on upgrades in my opinion. Either from the computer manufacturer support website or from ASRock support website, get the specs, it will tell you what type of hard drive is supported by your motherboard. (You will need the exact model number for your computer and/or your motherboard). Being that it's an old computer, it can be both the old IDE interface type (most likely, since you say the one you have now is only 60GB) or a newer SATA type. IDE has been phased out for years now, you can still find some used and even new ones for sale on eBay, etc. IDE has a plug with some 40pins for data and a 4pin Molex power plug, and SATA has two "L" shaped plugs, the big one for power and the small one for data. For IDE it gets more complicated, as you would need to setup a slave-master configuration, use drive jumpers and an IDE dual device ribbon cable.
