Why are Greek societies (colleges) specifically called Greek?
-
I looked up the requirements and I cannot see as to why they particularly connected to Greece. I mean these societies might as well be called Latin societies, Honor societies, Pledge societies, or even English societies....for the matter why Greek??? Does this have any connection to the country or is "Greek" have a different meaning in this context. It just seems strange...

Answer:
It's because they each use two or three letters from the Greek alphabet to make a name, like Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Chi, and so on.
