How can I improve my english accent ?

  • I'm 15, I was born in France and now I live in Canada. I speak italian, french, spanish and english. I watch movies in english only, understand english very well, write in english very well etc. etc. But there's a problem though...my accent. I don't really think that I have a good english accent. Is there any way I can improve it ? Are there classes or something to improve accents ? I'm a bit scared because I wanna go live in New York in the near future. My accent is not that bad, when I speak slowly it's good but I can't easily speak english when if I say words very fast haha I don't really know how to explain this but yeah. Serious answers please.

    Look up the International Phonetic Alphabet. It is a special set of characters that linguists have made in order to learn many accents and pronunciations. Almost any accent can be imitated by how wide we open our mouth and the position of our tongue. Secondly, forget about your doubts! The trick is also in the mind. When you are speaking English, pretend you are actually American (or English)! At the same time, forget about feeling comfortable with speaking Italian, French, or Spanish. Sometimes we halt our progression by not letting go of our zone of comfortability (our mother tongue). I also battled with improving my accent. In time, it got much better! You might want to try that Rosetta Stone program. Supposedly they will teach you how to speak the language, in this case English, like a true American. Good luck, I hope this helps you at all.
