What is nuclear energy?

What do I need build a nuclear station to generate energy?

  • Let's pretend that I am the mayor of a city set on a mountainous region, and that I want to raise a nuclear station to generate electricity to people there. Is it possible or impossible? If impossible, why? (I could only guess three problems, and I'm still uncertain if they're correct: Because only national government can deal with nuclear energy. Because it is difficult to transport uranium to there. Because mountainous regions are more likely to suffer of earthquakes.) I have another 2 questions: #1)Do all of the nuclear stations in the world use Uranium to generate electricity, or is there another chemical element being used? #2)Do they fuse or fissile Uranium in nuclear stations?

  • Answer:

As for your technical questions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power In America only private companies have nuclear plants, though they are tightly regulated by the government. To transport fuel and all of the other things needed, you just build a road or perhaps a train. If an area is earthquake prone then that's a bad spot to build ANY power plant. It's not the mountains, it's the earthquakes. The biggest problems are having the fuel to begin with, the expense of building a nuclear power plant, and the engineering ability to do it safely and effectively. One other thing that goes with your questions is that it needs to have water - LOTS of water, like the ocean, a river, or a lake.
