Which cosmetology school is best in Dallas?

What cosmetology school should I go to?!?

  • I love doing hair and makeup, I know that it won't be a substantial career when I choose to have a family, but I'm about to graduate high school. After I go to cosmetology school I am attending a University to relieve a bachelors in Business, and hopefully opening a salon of my own. After I collect and save enough, I want to go to Dental school and back to Univ to be an orthodontist. My only question is, what cosmetology school is my best option? I have heard that Paul Mitchell and Aveda are amazing, but I have also seen that you're basically paying for the name, that small town schools are just as good. IE American Academy of Cosmetology or web First Coast.. I want a school I know I will learn proper and useful techniques in, and that future customers will appreciate. Can anyone give me opinions to help me decide?

  • Answer:

Those are all great cosmetology schools you listed. The state licensing requirements in your state likely require those schools to teach similar curriculums, but there are other nuances about each school you might want to look into. I highly recommend searching here for schools in your area: http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/find/form.php Request information from the schools that match, and talk to their admissions reps. Ask about things like flexible scheduling, student salons, their curriculum, cost of the program and what's included, financial aid options, etc. In fact, here's a checklist of things to ask called "How to Choose a Beauty School" that a lot of people find helpful: http://www.beautyschoolsdirectory.com/faq/how-to-choose-a-beauty-school Does that help? Hope so! Good luck in your search!

A rose by any other name is still a rose, is it not? Cosmetology is best learned anywhere they teach it and it must be done properly or you won't pass your state board exams. Go to any school that is convenient for you and won't overcharge for the name. Having said that, after obtaining your license you can attend several seminars brought to the profession by Aveda, Paul Michell and others. Classes are available to make your specialty, like color or hair cutting, more advanced and better for you and for your clientele. That's where and when to spend the money...after licensing. No one can teach you how to style hair or anything other function except for the technical aspects. If you're good, it will show and you will move on in the industry. Your plans are huge but it wouldn't surprise me if you stayed in the beauty field once you're in it. It is and can be very lucrative.
