Can someone help me out with my personal statement for job?

I lied about my age for a job, help?

  • My mom was having financial problems a year ago, so I decided to get a job to help her out. The problem was that I was 16 and in a wheel chair. Well most kids in my grade that were 16 got jobs like at Wal-mart(I think) or Mcdonlds, Sonic, Burgerking, or even just fast food places. I looked into online jobs that would require no transportation because it's hard for me to leave my house. Someone told me to think about Avon, so I looked into it and found out I had to be 18. I gave them my age(lied) and social security number. They hired me and everything was going fine, until my cousin wanted to buy from me. She couldn't make the money deadlines to purchase her orders so she would ask my mom to pay for her and she would pay her back. The other problem is that my mom couldn't always make the deadlines because we would have to worry about our bills. And since I had other customers it would be hard to cancel orders. My cousin wouldn't pay my mom until two or three weeks after. I would then have to pay extra. This kept happening from October to January. The money I would earn before my cousin came buy from me, I used to help buy food for my siblings or pay for their school lunch. I finally quit in January because I didn't want to keep making my mom pay. Last week a lady called me say there was a claim against me and me or my attorney would have to call her back because she needs a brief statement if not they would proceed without me. I'm very scared now. She called me again and I didn't answer. I'm scared of what's going to happen to me. I don't want it to be on my record because I care about my education a lot and getting a job next year when I get into college on the school campus. Please, help me!?

  • Answer:

Best thing to do is be honest. A judge will be happy to hear the truth more than a lie. People make mistakes. And it may be dropped. We can't help you on here. But what you did was bad but good at the same time. Just be sure not to let it happen again. Also, you are not an adult. You worked for the money, and they should not of hired someone under age. Don't stress over this. Everything will be fine

I'd just be honest - answer the phone and explain. They'll understand. Also if you want to earn you could try youropportunityknocks.net it's legit and an A with the better business bureau :) You have to be at least 16 years old :)

First off, you didn't get a job. Avon didn't pay you a wage, they paid you pure commission on your Avon distribution. You basically signed a contract becoming a distributor. What has happened is that you have failed to pay your supplier for product. There are two options that they have before them. They can either attempt to sue you in small claims court - where they will lose as they did not have a legal contract with you since you are not of age to have entered into that contract (they do have the burden of performing due diligence in ensuring that the people they enter into contract are of age), or they can ding your credit. Either way, you will probably be barred from selling for Avon in the future. Most likely, since the amount is so small, you will be looking at getting your credit dinged if you do not pay it within the time frame set out in your contract (as well as for any penalties that are spelled out in the contract). Talk to someone and find out what they expect to be done and if you can make any arrangements for the outstanding balance. Explain your financial situation to the Avon person. They may be willing to make arrangements or even give you a reduction in the amount owed. They may even be willing to let you continue selling to your other customers until you make up the $110 that you haven't paid for yet (just don't take orders from your cousin until she pays what she owes and gives you the cash for her new order when she places it!!!). One more thing - learn from this experience. Be very, very careful when doing business with relatives and friends. You need to learn from this that if someone, even if it is your best friend or a very close relative, doesn't pay you for a product, that they don't get the product and you do not order anything for them until they have paid you in advance!

They can't really do anything about your lying about your age except fire you, and guess what, you already quit. I don't think that is why that lady is calling you. Did you pay Avon all that was owed? Edit: You just need to be honest with the lady calling. They will probably cut you some slack if you tell them the situation, and have you pay it back in increments. It would be best if you could find a friend or relative to give you a loan so you can just pay it all back ASAP, but I'm not sure that's an option for you. Call her back ASAP, you don't want her pinging your credit, if she hasn't already.
