How do I activate a camera for my mac?

Will this camera work with my mac?

  Hi Jacob: The short answer is "most likely, yes." But what is more important than knowing the OSX & CPU/RAM details of your Mac, in this instance, is knowing exactly which model you have, since some of the MacBooks in recent years were made without FireWire ports. That's the key feature that you need for the Canon HV40 or any other miniDV tape-based camcorder. Just get the correct version of the IEEE-1394a (FireWire 400 spec) cable, meaning 4-pin at the camera end, and either 4-pin or 6-pin at the Mac end (depending on which your particular Mac has). Some Macs have both the 400- and 800-speed FireWire ports (the FW800 uses a 9-pin connector), but just use the FW400, to save on cable expense. Some more-recent Mac laptops only have the FW800 port. There are FireWire cables with 4-pin & 9-pin connectors for that. If you happened to have one of the 2008/9-era MacBooks (models in the MB400-series), you won't have any FireWire ports at all, and no way to add one.
