Are all people with Aspergers the same?

Can people with aspergers and sociopaths join the military?

  • There is this group of kids at my school who have aspergers, but just as people they're very odd, one of them I'm fairly certain is not aspergers like he says he is, when he came to my house he hurt my pets, breaking my cats ribs and tried to cut my older brother with his pocket knife, now he won't shut up about my home and my life, and it seemed like he doesn't care that he hurts things, he is very dark and lies a lot, always talking about killing his parents and he has this explosive temper, if anyone does something against the rules or that he says no to he goes berserk and tries to hurt them Im terrified that these people will get accepted because I know that they'll cause problems and someone might get hurt or worse I also know I sound like an incredibly judgmental douche for posting this But I just need to know, can people with severe aspergers and sociopaths join the military?

  • Answer:

It never did me any harm in fact the army is very good and bringing these skills out of you.

You really need to learn about the vast differences between Asperger's and sociopaths, before you lump them together in one question... http://www.thersa.org/events/video/vision-videos/simon-baron-cohen

I have asperger's and we don't go around hurting people's animals. He sounds like someone with mental problems. No, we aren't allowed in the military. You have very little Knowledge of AS. Asperger's is on the Autism Spectrum, and is similar to High functioning Autism. We tend to be very bright, and usually have a strong interest in one or more subjects that we look up. We have high anxiety in social situations, because our brains have a hard time understanding social cues and behaviors. While we have a hard time, we are no sociopaths, and your "friend" has some strong mental issues and needs help. You need to talk to a trusted adult.

I have Aspergers as well. I just have a hard time keeping eye contact and holding conversations. Aspergers is not disqualifying in the military. The kid you are talking about sounds like he has some serious, serious problems going on in his head. Aspergers isn't a serious mental disorder. I honestly don't think that is what's wrong with him.

No, They have enough trouble with normal kids going bonkers in a war zone. In 65 I was a MP in Korea and most of the people in the stockade were from Viet Nam who flipped and started to kill their buddies. They take 18, 19 etc teach them how to kill toss them in a war zone and many can't handle it.

You can't join if you have a mental illness. Most of us leave with enough mental problems as it is.

Hey may be telling the truth about having aspergers but I'm not sure that that's what's causing him to do those things. However, it has been said that some people with aspergers find it difficult to comprehend other people's pain (I am not talking about EVERYONE with aspergers.), anyway, to be honest, I think this boy is using his aspergers as an excuse for his terrible behaviour. I know a few people who have aspergers very well and they are lovely, bright, creative and interesting people.

they do all the time.
