How long does grass grow in Arkansas?

Will new grass grow if you plant right on top on the brown-dead grass?

  • So my grandmother thought it was ok to sprinkle the grass seed mix over the patches of dead grass on our front lawn. I told her on the package it says to remove the dead grass and loosen the soil before planting the seeds but she didn't bother to listen. Sigh, well....I just want to know if we're expected to see new grass. She already had me water the seeds on top of the dead grass, so there's no going back 8C

  • Answer:

If grass is dead then you have to remove it and reseed new grass there. Mow lawn regular, it keeps lawn healthy. You can find more information about lawn and tips to keep it healthy from source link.

No. You have to rake up the old dead grass or pull it all away then plant the seeds everwhere you want it to grow. So you wont be seeing any new grass unless u do that first lol, hope this info helps you to convince her that :) good luck

To do the best job remove the old dead grass and loosen the soil. It would help to scratch in potting soil that will retain moisture and give the seeds a better chance of getting started. It depends on how quick you want results. It will take a lot longer to do it like your grandma says. Grandma's way is the opposite of professional.
