Have had mono for 4 weeks, white bumps and stripes in throat?
-
sorry it's really long! I am just concerned, and want to find some answers! :) Okay, so my doctor diagnosed me with mono around 4 weeks ago :( I have been home, feeling awful, but I had been feeling a little better the last couple days. But, yesterday, I started feeling awful again, and today I feel like I felt on day one! My mom looked down my throat, and she said that it looks like there are white bumps and stripes, and she said it also said it looks like blood vessels popped or something (she compared it to a blood shot eye). I had tonsillitis a lot as a kid, and had my tonsils out around five years ago. She got me an appointment with the doctor later today, but I was wondering if this is common with mono? my mom said it could be strep, but I've had strep and I don't think that is how my throat feels! I just feel really nauseous and my body is achy and I have had really bad headaches for the past few days ... sometimes just dull pain, sometimes I've had to treat it like a migraine and go into a dark room. My back has been hurting, and my stomach has been hurting. I've been getting lightheaded really easily, even though I've been really careful to stay hydrated and eat protein. I have been really fatigued during the day, and completely listless - don't have enough energy to do anything but lay down - but at night I have serious trouble laying down! It actually seems like I can't fall asleep until after I get rid of my pillow, and then I can't remember when I fall asleep it happens so quickly! Around a week ago, I was coughing like crazy and I was coughing up phlegm, and then I coughed up something so big that I thought I had thrown up! It filled up my mouth, and when I spit it out (into the toilet) it looked like it was kind of a light brown, and it was around five inches long, and had a diameter of about 2 inches. I flushed it before my parents could look at it, so they didn't really know what to do, but they told me to tell them if it happened again, and it hasn't. My dad thinks it could have just been a lot of phlegm, and I had eaten spaghetti so he thinks the sauce could have caused the color...idk. So, yea, it DOESN'T feel like strep. What could it be? Is it just the mono progressing? :( or is it something that mono could have caused? A friend of mine at my dance studio had mono when she was in high school and she didn't rest (and I haven't been doing a great job of that, either), and ended up getting spinal meningitis - i don't know what the symptoms are, but that showed me that mono can cause other issues, and I want to make sure that I am prepared to ask the doctor as many questions as possible when i go in later. thanks! :)

Answer:
I will try to be brief... This is just the Mono. Mono is caused by the Epstein Bar Virus, which is a herpes virus. there are two tests for Mono; a Mono Spot, and the EBV test. For some reason, you can have Mono without having EBV, however if you test positive for EBV, then you will have the virus for the rest of your life and can [but not always] suffer occasional 'flare ups' that usually last a few days, but in some cases can last longer. The color of your Phlegm is not important unless you are coughing up blood. You will feel better one day, and horrible the next. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing exactly how long you will be sick. i had 3 children come down with Mono last spring...I did as well. One of my daughters has EBV...the rest of us only had Mono. We all recovered at different speeds. some people [most] are sick for a few weeks. Others are ill for months. Rest is the very best thing for this as well as treating your symptoms to be more comfortable. Drink lots of fluids, take Mucinex to thin out your mucus, Tylenol or Advil for fever and sore throat. Mono does not cause other problems. Where Mono does so much to the body in the way of making you feel like your world is coming to an end, people do not die from it. Almost everyone recovers just fine and have no lasting effects. there are no medications for it currently to cure it or make it go away any faster unfortunately. just rest and get better soon!

I had mono and rested in bed in a few months time (6) it was gone :) then it came back years later however their is a way to get rid of it. Get a organic jar of coconut oil and eat a spoon full every few hours I did this and it was gone in 2 weeks! the oil some how interacts with the bug and seems to kill it :) because I was on month 3 resting and all of the sudden I got better and better with each gulp of the oil. I ate a spoon full every few hours until it was gone (2 weeks) with proper rest this may have been reduced to 5 days like others say online. make sure your oil is organic and glass jar is best.. and yes i can confirm it works on mono :)
