What are a few college majors/careers suitable to shy people?

Why do people say college is the best years of your life, I hate it with a passion?

  • I am a sophomore and I really hate college. The excessive work, the snobby people, jocks and fraternity guys at my school, being an hour away from home (the only place I feel welcome), everything. The only reason I go to college is because if I don't, I won't get a good job. If I could get a high paying job without college, or if someone on the street gave me a billion dollars, I would never have gone. I constantly have anxiety about college and its destroying my self esteem and mental health. No matter how many things I try (like joining clubs, and going to parties) I just can't stop hating it. I really try to love college, but it simply doesn't love me back. I guess I could try to tough it out for the next two years, but college is something I want to enjoy, not something I want to just get through. And every time I go home for breaks, I never want to go back to school, and anxiety always ruins my much needed breaks. And to those who say it will get harder once I have a job, bs. I have had 3 jobs already, and combined, they were about 100 times easier college. Overall, I have no idea why people say college is the BEST years of your life. So far, they have been the WORST years of my life, and I would have rather gone to high school for 4 more years than college for even a month. If college isn't for me, then WHAT can I do to make it for me? I have thought about transferring, but I am hesitant that it won't make a big impact. My problem isn't the specific college I go to, its college life in general that bothers me. Also making friends will be hard at the new school because everyone already made their friend groups 2 years ago, which is why I really shouldn't transfer. I also worked very hard in high school to get into this prestigious college.

  • Answer:

To be honest, the problem is not college. The problem is your self esteem and anxiety. Life is what you make of it. If you think that you have a real problem with your anxiety then I suggest you see a doctor. I enjoyed college because I found out who I was. I developed habits in life (good and bad) that carried on into my professional career. I had great relationships with making new friends and created a nice love life. I joined organization for self fulfillment and progressed my knowledge based. I tried new things and activities that I never experienced before. It's a time when, for alot of people, where you did not have alot of obligations but only study and invest in your future.
