Answer:

I am assuming you are in the UK, if so then your area has finally switched to digital broadcast and turned of the old analogue signal. The most recent area to change over was meridian. You will need to get a DVT or freeview box to get TV now, or switch to a cable provider or satellite service.

You need a Freeview, Freesat, Sky Box or one of the others to get a signal. You will probably need an outdoor aerial to get a strong enough signal.
