What belief does America represent.?
-
In terms of its ideals and fundamental beliefs? What beliefs and principles do Americans believe in? What is the original America? I live in Oklahoma, and even though I don't know too much about American tradition, this state doesn't seem to represent American ideals at all. The only thing here in Oklahoma is McDonalds and Quicktrip. Everybody is dressed like a panhandler wearing flipflops and short shorts. People are fat and uneducated.....very stupid and don't understand anything about their own history/culture/traditions. They are also geographically challenged. So, I don't know what American fundamental ideals are. Anyone care to explain to me the traditional American way of life?

Answer:
When I was much younger I was taught to respect the rights of others. We had payed dearly for Freedom to worship God in whatever faith we belonged to Freedom Of Religion not Freedom from Religion. The right to life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness was God given not from man. I was taught to respect the dignity of my fellow man. That we are All brothers and sisters under God. This was Openly and Forcefully taught in public schools where I was raised. At home I was taught the value of respecting my environment from the inside of the house to the whole world outside. Over the years these things have been replaced with the anything goes mentality of today. It is the same old story history repeating itself over and over again. It is amongst the things the Founders of this country warned about. The all believed without a good moral compass this nation would not stand. I see the cracks in my country widening ever day and it breaks my heart to think of it. good insight possum.

Our ideals and beliefs are embodied in the bill of rights - specifically, the amendments therein. The most commonly spoken about are: 1) freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, and the right to petition, freedom of religion 2) right to keep and bear arms. 3) freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. 4) due process, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, eminent domain. 5) trial by jury and rights of the accused; speedy trial, public trial, right to counsel 6) civil trial by jury 7) prohibition of excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment. 8) prohibition of denial of suffrage based on race, color, gender, or previous condition of servitude There are 27 of them (technically, there are only 25, since one is made specifically to repeal another). And while these ideals aren't absolute, they are broadly interpreted and the interpretations of many of them are often the focus of nearly every single major election we have. EDIT: You are doing yourself (and all of America) a disservice by basing your opinion on a small view of our society. Visit our cities, and our cultural enclaves - like the Amish and Cajuns. Visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. You can walk into almost any Christian church wearing Orthodox Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist garb and note the warm reception. And you can do the same similarly by walking into many temples and mosques. And come to the conclusion we are very tolerant, despite the warmongering of a few who have not learned much about our bill of rights at all. EDIT: flipflops, shorts, fat, and uneducated? You are probably watching people walk in and out of a Walmart, no doubt. Geographically challanged? Yes: many consider Canada to be another state, and don't know that Puerto Rico isn't a state. But then, so do the Canadians and Puerto Ricans! We are not flanked by many other countries, and many of us that are here came from lands far away and formed communities that made sharing that culture difficult. As a result, we speak one language publicly, but privately we speak many languages. That's not "our" fault - that's "everyone's" fault.
