How to get to Wisconsin dells from Madison airport?

Becoming A Civil Airline Pilot?

  • I am 15 years old. I want to become an airline pilot, and maybe even fly a Boeing 737 or larger, someday for a living. I live in La Crosse Wisconsin (Which has a nice municipal airport) and live in between two larger cities (Minneapolis MN, and Madison WI) I have no criminal record, no speeding tickets etc, and no family backrounds of such things. I have a 3.7 G.P.A at the end of my Freshmen year and could probably get a higher G.P.A next year. What is the best approach for me to become a Pilot? And where should I go to college?

  • Answer:

First of all you should be proud of yourself for wanting to be a pilot. Not and easy thing to accomplish but im sure that if it is what you want , for sure you`ll reach your goal. I want to tell you my story, Im 20 now, but I wanted to be a pilot since I was 3 yrs old and I wanted to fly the B737 too! But there are a lot of steps you gotta go through before actually you fly a jet such as the 737. What I first did was to decide aviation as my final and sole career. Then I began a research on aviations schools, and i found a complete variety of flying schools, from those garage flying schools up to college schools (such as embry riddle) it depends a lot on your budget ... Finally i made up my mind for one (which is not in the US) and went there and study. Got my degree as a commercial pilot a year ago and began looking for a job. In the U.S if you wanna be an airline pilot it may take you decades and plenty of experience before you get to seat on the right as a First Officer in an airline such as delta , american etc ... even Spirit. However there are plenty of airlines in the world and some in desperate seek of pilots, since they are constantly buying more and more planes. I now work for Avianca Airlines (Star Alliance Member) in S.America as First Officer of the Airbus 320. My advice to you is: Finish school , find a fine flying school , get your license and began sending your resumé to every single airline. forget about major degrees. good luck

Look for a job at Janet Airlines. You don't wanna be an airline pilot... it's a competitive and dying industry. EVERYTHING is based on seniority with THAT airline. so if you were a 15,000 hour pilot from Pan Am, and get hired by Delta, you start again at the bottom of the pay scale. If aviation's your passion, become an aeronautical engineer for Boeing or Lockheed Martin. Then you can buy your own jet and fly it.

Get a four year degree in anything but aviation, you may need that later. Go out to the airport and find a flight school and ask lots of questions. You can also start at www.aopa.org for what questions to ask. Take a road trip to Oshkosh and see the EAA museum. Plan on finding a lousy job at first, you'll make nothing, fly crappy equipment and feel like you live at the airport, but you be getting experience. With enough hours, start applying to the airlines (if that's still what you want to do). Good luck.
