I need to rent my car out for ten months is there anywhere i can do this?
-
I have a job as an au pair which I am doing so I can begin teacher training, the au pair position is for 10 months and i know i am not going to need a car for this. My car is currently on finance as I got it shortly after passing my driving test, I really don't want to sell my car because I am going to need it when I come home and if I sell it now i wont have a deposit for a new one when i come back. However while am trying to save money up for this I can seen that the preferable thing to do here would be to rent my car out- that way i don't feel like i am paying not to use my car, but also means that my car is going to get used so its not going to be broken when I come back. Does anyone know somewhere where I could rent out my car for ten months, whether to a company or to an individual. I don't intend to rent it for anymore than the monthly payment on it so it wouldn't be a very high monthly rental scheme. Any suggestions?

Answer:
No. Far too many legal issues and responsibilities for it to be a practical proposition.

Since the finance company own the vehicle until you've paid it off, I don't think they'd be very keen on this idea. Also, would you really like strangers driving your car for 10 months, leaving you with repair bills afterwards for things you haven't done? Very risky use of the vehicle, which could prove to be very costly. You'd also need to be insured to rent it out, which would also be incredibly expensive and difficult to obtain as an individual. This could be more than the cost of the montly repayments on the vehicle, so you'd be making a loss if you hired it out for the cost of the finance repayments alone. You're not paying to use/not use your car, you're paying to OWN the car at the end of the finance period. There is a difference. Might be worthwhile looking into keeping it in storage for 10 months, renting a garage from the local council or borrowing a friend's garage until you're back.

I am not really sure if you can "rent" a car out to someone else. That would be pretty risky since a simple accident could do major damage. You should just keep the car and if you aren't able to use it at all while working in your job you could possibly have a family member crank it or drive it down the block once and awhile so it still works well when your job is over.

"...but also means that my car is going to get used so its not going to be broken when I come back." LOL!!! Just LOL!! If you don't understand why I'm laughing, then you really shouldn't be driving, let alone asking this question!
