What's inside a Mosquito bite, and why does it swell up?

Why is it when you get a mosquito bite, the area bitten will swell up?

  • I just finished the immune unit and was wondering.. does a mosquito bite have any relation with the inflammatory system? Is venom a sort of antigen?

  • Answer:

Mosquitoes inject a numbing liquid into your skin so you don't feel being bitten. Your skin has an allergic reaction to it.

The answer is kind of gross but when the mosquito is sucking your blood it injects a numbing solution so it won't hurt. This later causes the area to swell and itch. The redness is from scratching. Btw may want to look it up because I asked this question awhile ago.
