How To Speak Thai?

Question about American learning to speak Thai language?

• I am learning Thai language. I can read and write (this part was actually much easier for me than learning to listen and speak). I am at the point in my Thai language learning that I have enough vocabulary that I can make my own sentences. Problem is you can't use Google translate to create sentences in Thai because Thai is usually not directly translated from English. Therefore, you will need to ask a Thai person how to say what you want to say. Problem is, I don't like asking Thais because it is so time consuming to ask them anything. They go on and on and on about what is your job, how much money do you make, who did you come to Thailand with, they ask all these questions to determine if you are "worth" helping and it is so annoying. Therrefere, I have attempted to use Google translate. All my learn Thai books just teach you Thai, they don't create sentences. Thai is not directly translated. Also, Thai people will lie to you and give you and overly formal sentence which will make you sound like a tourist for sure. Just looking for some ideas. Looking to create sentences, therefore, do not paste links to online language sites okay. Important, do not copy and paste links to Thai language websites. Don't copy and paste your answer. Please answer from your own knowledge.

  Why not read a book and study the sentence structure. I know I'm a moron but I sure have more common sense then a large majority of this world. Also watch some movies with Thai subtitles. As for the rest of the world we learn to speak Thai long before reading and writing.
