How do I add a non-steam game to steam?

If I add a game to Steam, will it back it up If I didn't install it through Steam?

  • That's basically the question Let's say I buy a game digitally through Gamestop. i then add it to the Steam library. Will it back up the install process and everything?

  • Answer:

If the game uses steam as its DRM, and so HAS to be registered to steam in order to be played, then your version essentially becomes a steam copy, and you can download from steam as if you bought it there. For any other game, I'm pretty sure this doesn't work.
